SmartCarton packages are earth friendly
SmartCarton packages are made primarily from a renewable resource - paper! The paper in the cartons comes from domestic tree farms where
more trees are planted than are cut down and where the biodiversity of the forests is preserved and protected. Renewable
resources are resources that are replenished, which means that if they are intelligently managed, they will last indefinitely.
Non-renewable resources, such as plastic (which is made from oil) exist in finite quantities, which means that they will
eventually be used up.
Because SmartCarton packages are made primarily from paper, they are not only recyclable, they are
compostable! School districts throughout the US are beginning to implement full-scale composting programs that use all
organics including food waste and food-soiled paper, like milk cartons. Composting is a great way to use environmental
resources efficiently. It uses organics that are generated locally, turns them into a nutrient-rich soil amendment at a local
compost facility and then sells the compost to local nurseries, farmers and homeowners; creating local jobs using local
environmental resources.
Today's SmartCarton packages are also 20% lighter than they were 20 years ago. And because the unfilled
cartons are shipped flat to dairy processors, fewer trucks are needed for transportation and distribution, which means less
energy consumption and emissions.
